The 3 Kings Series is basically the Wu-affiliated Triple Threat. Here’s my predictions on how the albums will sound:
Bronze Nazareth’s School for the Blindman: Honestly, this is the only one of the three I am anticipating. In 2005 Bronze undoubtedly solidified his position as one of the hardest hitting producers/emcees in all of hip-hop with his contributions to Wu-Tang Meets Indie Culture. The following year he released his solo debut, The Great Migration, easily one of the best albums of the year. Will Bronze be able to reach the bar he set so high? Well, if he’s still as filthy as usual with the beats and rhymes, and the album doesn’t get over-saturated with guest appearances, School for the Blindman should be a sure shot in 2009.
The Wisemen — Children of a Lesser God: Too many rappers try to put their crew on. The Wisemen’s first LP, Wisemen Approaching, was a pleasant surprise, but Children of a Lesser God is set to feature three new members that I have no recollection of. Anyway, I’ll save everyone the time by not elaborating on how much my trust has diminished from giving other Wu-affiliated groups (T-Unit, Ice Water Inc., and Housegang) the benefit of the doubt, and just get down to brass tax. My outlook is pessimistic. However, I always listen with open ears. I hope The Wisemen prove me wrong on this one.
Almighty’s All Praise is Due: All praise is due? Doubt it, fella’s. Unless M-Eighty, Son One, and 5-Star have found the M.O.D. (Microphone of Destiny), there’s no chance Almighty’s sophomore effort will be any better than their sack of shit debut, Original S.I.N. Sorry, Priest.
As much as I think M-Eighty is worthless lyrically, respect is due for him shopping these three projects to Seattle’s Sound Records and Entertainment, and not handing them over to the notoriously terrible Babygrande Records. From what I gather, there couldn’t have been a better time to ditch Babygrande Records than now. Jedi Mind Tricks – who are basically the reason Babygrande built such a good looking roster — are also planning to leave the label after they fulfill their contract with the next Army of the Pharaohs LP (which will suck like the rest of them). So, with Babygrande Records losing (from who I would assume is…) their biggest source of income (JMT), publicly beefing with two of their other big name acts (Blue Sky Black Death and Jean Grae), and by printing up instrumental versions of every Babygrande release under the sun, I think it’s safe to assume that they will fold in the near future. Good.
Back to M-Eighty: It’s been rumored that he has a hand in on (A&R’ing, I would guess) a Canibus and Keith Murray collaborative LP. If he makes that album happen, and contributes to its greatness in any way, shape, or form, I’ll try my hardest to never mention again how bad he is on the microphone.

apparently babygrande is still signing people. fabio musta, a producer from italy (bet you couldn’t have guessed!), is their latest addition to the roster. his beats are actually pretty nice — i’d say about 10,000 times better than that of snowgoons. already confirmed guests for the album are guilty simpson (hear the track on fabio’s myspace), jeru the damaja, reks, and strong arm steady. as long as his babygrande debut, passport, due 5-12, doesnt feature slaine, king magnetic, block mccloud, he should be all set. who am i kidding? i’m sure babygrande will find some way to fuck this guys album up.
thoughts on the 3 kingz series and/or canibus/keith murray project, anyone?
That Kieth Murray/Canibus callabo makes my ween hard. But, as I said to you via textual message, I’m sure blue balls will ensue because I’ll be disappointed. As far as Baby Grande goes, I had high hopes because they were pretty much the next Rawkus if you will because they had a roster filled with (oxymoron alert) big underground names. But now that Baby Grande is pretty much JMT-Grande and they love Snowboobs so much, I really don’t care about their releases anymore. I’ll buy anything Bronze Nazzie because his production is by far the best in last 5 years or so. As far as the Wisemen go, I wasn’t so big on their album, but Bronze def makes it worth listening to again and again. Plus there’s a song with my binky, Vast, and it gets nice. And as far as the Almighty go… Fuck those herbs. That shit was horrendous. Supergroups will never be good. Ever. So KRS-1, Buckshot, and B-Real’s super group will be garbage and Guilty Simpson, Sean Price, and Black Milk’s super group will also be bad… I’ll probably buy both the day they come out though.
i lol’ed at “makes my ween hard.” but then i puked when you called vast aire your “binky.”
babygrande pretty much was the next rawkus. rawkus signed a few good artists, and then got dissed by most of them. now they have a bunch of no-talent rejects. in time, the same thing will be happening to babygrande. actually, it already is…
i think i agree with you as far as supergroups, though. just look at the 4 horsemen — that bullshit cdr they put out had to be the underachievment of the millenium.
i heard about the krs/buckshot lp, but had no idea they were doing anything with b-real (who i like better than both of them).
and as long as sean p doesnt donate his 13 best throwaway verses, that guilty/ruck/black milk lp will be bananas.
Supergroups can be good if they are executed successfully, its just been awhile since a new one has.
yeah, i suppose. i can only think of two albums by “supergroups” that have been successful: def squad’s album and westside connections first.
Would you not consider N.W.A, Wu Tang, and Boot Camp “supergroups”
not at all. they were all groups/crews before any of their members achieved “super” status. the same goes for d.i.t.c.
i would define a supergroup as three or more artists who have achieved popularity in their own right, coming together to form a group outside of the associations they had at the beginning of their careers. almighty, 4 horsemen, slaughterhouse, and emc are just a few examples.
I suppose your right
