This Ocean State Sampler compilation — courtesy of Potholes in my Blog — was made available for free download a little over a month ago but I never really got around to making a post about it. But after Zumo Kollie posted on his Twitter account about Regina Spektor’s “Us” being his jam-of-the-moment, I thought there would be no better time to make this entry, say again how much I love Regina, and give the kid a little free TECB publicity. Kollie’s track, “Victory Lap,” is one of ten to be featured on the sampler which also includes some of Rhode Island’s best rhyme-spitters (Chachi, Jahpan, and Symmetry) and beat maestro’s (Falside and Joe Beats) on the scene right now. Check it out:
And, if you need a more thorough explanation on why you should download the Ocean State Sampler, be sure to check out the Chris Conti write-up from the December 30th Providence Phoenix.
Also on the free download tip is The Prestige Volume 1: Rhode Island Hip-Hop Mixtape presented by 401 Hip-Hop. The Prestige, mixed by DJ Sterbyrock, is the dopest thing to come out of this area for a while now (and, yes, with all of our local talent, that is saying a lot) and was given some superb shine by former Rhode Islander DJ Mekalek (which also says a lot because Mek don’t slack). Get the mix here for free and let us know what you be thinkin’. Peace.

I like Kollie’s song a lot. He has a nice voice and seems sweet.
Because hip hoppers strive for sweetness…
