A tit-load of free RI hip-hop

For those not in the know (everyone on the planet, aside from five or six people), I shamelessly requested that The Echo Chamber Blog be shouted-out on this week’s “Warped Wax Wednesday” (easily the best radio show to hit 90.3 since the days of Mek and Joey Wonk) on WRIU, and Swerve hooked it up during Sterby‘s blend of Jahpan’s “Take Me Home” and Apathy’s “Rhode Island.” Fitting spot, too, considering TECB is primarily based out of RI and reps a lot of local talent.  Geah, definitely most appreciated, gentlemen.

You can hear “Warped Wax Wednesday” every Wednesday from 3-6 on 90.3 on your FM dial, and, even if you aren’t from the lovely state of Rhode Island, or happened to be a stone-age RI-resident without a radio, you can still stream the show over at WRIU’s website.  (Although, I would assume, if you don’t have a radio, a computer is probably out of question.)

Anyway, I figured it would be in good form to actually make a post with all the RI hip-hop I have unfairly neglected over the past few months, especially because I wouldn’t want any RI hip-hop heads coming through to see my last post was about cheese made from titty-milk (titties!), so lets start it like this…

Fear and Loathing in Rhode Island from Boombox Saintz comes with a six-month-late-pass, but I’m sure most people would have found it here last even if I did post the mix when it first hit the net.  But, hey, we’re still on the come-up.  We’ll be making it rain soon enough.  Anyway, get the download here.

Dirty Hank just released his The Guide to Giving Up EP a little over a month ago.  Here’s what the press release said:  “This unique presentation of random acts of fuckery bleeds pain, anger, frustration, sexual angst, and disgust — all beautifully blended over production from acclaimed Providence beatsmith Falside, and up-and-comer Mad Plaid.”  If you’re looking to be uplifted, DH (ooo, DH!) ain’t your man.  But, if you’d like to indulge your depression, or just listen to some quality offensive hip-hop, this is your shit right here.  Download it now.  And, if you be digging that, Hank’s The Class Act Mixtape blended by DJ Sterbyrock is still available for free, too.

When FrO and I went to Elevation a few months back, he looked at me and said “emo-haircut gets pretty nice.”  He was talking about HW (Hazardous Wastes), of course, and I can’t do anything but concur.  The kid reached out to TECB via our Twitter account concerning his newest joint, A Years Worth of Worry, which you can download, along with a couple of his other projects, here for freezy.

Falside is slowly becoming the Kool Keith of Rhode Island with his uncanny number of releases.  Only difference is Falside doesn’t drop five projects of garbo between every quality release like Keith does.  So make sure to download Cold Feat: The Winter Beat Tape, Meat N’ Veggies EP with DJ Emoh Bettah, and his newest mixtape Dollars Make Change right meow.  (“Excuse me, are you saying ‘meow’.”)

Entity just started a page on Bandcamp where his Final Notice: The UNmixedTAPE and Past Due LP are now available for free.

I remember when I heard Entity spin “Higher Authority” on RIU for the first time — I think I may have shit my pants in the CCRI parking lot.  Yeah, I liked it that much.  Still do, in fact.

Stalker Stories, Reason‘s mixtape release anticipating his upcoming (? — Newbury Comics has it already) LP, just dropped a couple weeks ago for free download, but hard copies are also available if you pre-order Landlords and Lullabies.  Get the download, or put some dollars in the man’s pocket.  “Pick ya’ choice,” as my boy Drek would say.

Most of you know how j.DePina and Chachi are far from unfamiliar names on TECB — they’re two of my favorites, and I’m not just speaking on the local landscape.  Anyway, Chachi released The Red (download here), a tape in which you would be utterly stupid to pass-up on.  (Yo, Chach, any CD copies out there?)  And, finally, I thought everyone should know how thorough j.DePina’s Soundcloud page is.

Oh, and heads should also know that j. said there is a new j.DePina x Swann Notty project in the making.  Another instant classic, I’m sure.

Word.  That’s it for this time.  I’ll be more punctual with posting about this stuff when I actually first hear about it in the future.

Anyone else on the local scene (RI/NE) want to get a little more free publicity, hit our email — echochamberblog@gmail.com — with links/press releases/etc.  And be good.
