Regina Spektor Covers “My Man” for Boardwalk Empire

Most of you have come to know TECB as a hip-hop site.  Truth is, we are — primarily because hip-hop is what the two of us are most in tune with.  That said, we do listen to, and prefer in many cases, music outside of the said genre.  As far as recent artists go, Regina Spektor has always been one of my favorites.  She has two albums — Songs and Soviet Kitsch — from 2002 and ’04, respectively, that I will forever celebrate as cornerstones of contemporary greatness.  Ironically enough, it was Begin to Hope, Spektor’s following album from ’06, that gained her worldwide notoriety.

Since then, Regina has released two more albums: Far, her studio LP from ’09, and Live in London, a live recording from her tour for the aforementioned album in 2010.  Her work has been featured in television and film so frequently that royalty checks are likely to hit her pockets as often as her hand pens a new lyric.  The latest song to make the grade, “My Man,” a Fanny Brice cover, appeared in the closing of “A Dangerous Maid,” the third episode of Boardwalk Empire‘s second, and far superior, season on HBO.

Give it a listen:

Word to Richard Harrow. “Right down to the last bullet,” homie.
