Even after reading all of the praise for Black and Brown, Danny Brown’s collaborative EP with Black Milk, I still managed to brush it off with what I suppose was an apparent disregard of the popular opinion. Foolish of me, too, as Black Milk is one of my favorite contemporary hip-hop artists, and I’m always partial towards one-emcee x one-producer efforts. Luckily, I’ve been seeing Danny Brown’s name all over the place — on Paul White’s new record, on the shelves of Newbury Comics, and on this ASAP Rocky & ICU-directed video for “Blunt After Blunt” (a song featured on Brown’s XXX, an album you can download in its entirety via Fool’s Gold Records) — to serve as a stark reminder of how quickly I need to scoop a copy of the Detroit Duo’s project.
I can’t really explain what I’m loving about this guy, but I think it’s that, lyrically, he somewhat resembles a thuggish, excessively high, non-pimp version of Too Short. A good 99% of Brown’s verses tackle topics such as drug consumption, munching box, drug consumption, and munching box, which usually do absolutely nothing for me, but the Rock City resident has me listening, rewinding, and listening to his crudeness all over again.
