If you remember correctly, back in May I wrote about 1,500 words in a review, waxing poetic about House of Bees Vol. 2, the latest mixtape from Strange Famous Records’ B. Dolan. If you don’t remember correctly, go here and learn yourself some manners. “Which Side Are You On” made my diatribe, as I mentioned how I was in awe over a hip-hop artist taking others to task by using the word “faggot” as a punchline and, more impressively, how a hip-hop artist stated they were behind the LGBT community.
What makes those two rare feats even rarer, is now instead of just the pages of TECB and in the back of our 14 readers’ minds, a much larger audience will be able to see first hand what Brother Bee has to say. The video for “Which Side Are You On” debuted (if you can really say debut in this age …) on the pages of Hip Hop Dx. Sure you have to wait for a Jeep video-ad to finish loading before you can start the song and god-forbid you accidentally roll your cursor over that same ad while the video is playing, but the exposure those fascists at Dx provide is undeniable. I’m always proud whenever someone from my home state gets some shine, especially when it’s someone as worthy as B. Dolan and something well deserved like this track/video. It’s a dope concept, the video, and has the same powerful use of video clips as the video for “Film the Police.”
Scoop up House of Bees Vol. 2 at your favorite digital record store or head over to the Strange Famous website and get a physical copy. And as always, if you haven’t seen the “Film the Police” video yet, or it’s been awhile, bookmark that shit.
