I had this song stuck in my head — the above lyric, in particular — the other day. The track is titled “Sentimental Heart,” and it’s probably the best to be found on the first She & Him album, Volume One.
I wanted to bring it to the page for a few reasons. One being that the song applied to the mood I was in. It’s really a beautiful thing when music speaks to you. Zooey is also quite beautiful, which is the second reason I’m here making this post.
The third, and most likely what any reader will consider the lamest reason, is how I enjoy her use of the word “got.” It’s a rather unflattering word — to look at and to hear, especially when there are plenty of other words to use in its place (ie “have,” bought,” “must,” and more, all depending on the context, of course). That said, I think she finesses it. Apparently there are exceptions to every rule, even when unwritten and likely exclusive to myself, and this just makes sense to me. Her use of the word, that is.
And there you have it. Another nerdy, not to mention pretty shitty, post in the books. Hey, that’s what we’re made of. That, and excessive commas.
One closer to one-thousand. Here we go.
