Chance the Rapper – ACID RAP

00 - Chance_The_Rapper_Acid_Rap-front-large

Twitter can be beautiful tool. Based on the strength of a random tweet from an artist I think highly of, I searched out for a song and ended up downloading an entire album and listening to the entire online catalog of Chance the Rapper. This kid, (he’s 20, recorded a gang of raps at just 19) is crazy original and just dropped this mix tape/album ACID RAP (unfortunately it’s on DatPiff, sad emoticon) with a host of dope producers, like Jake One and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League) and guest appearances by Action Bronson, Childish Gambino, and Twista (remember that dude?) The tweet in reference made note of the track with Bronsilino, which you can hear first, as I did:

The whole album is really different, the dude is on some dare-to-be-different shit that most cats in my inbox are too scared to even listen to, let alone try. I’m sure Chris will think it’s more of my weirdo rap, but what else would you expect from the two differing ear styles of The Echo Chamber. You can download this mixtape/album here, just make sure no one sees you visiting DatPiff.

Also shouts to MC Eleven for putting me onto dude. You can get familiar with Migueleven by clicking this. Do it.

De La Soul – “GET AWAY”

DeLaSoul

The O.G.’s have a new track out, entitled “GET AWAY.” Officially it features “The Spirit of The Wu” but I’m not about to put that in the title, although the vocal samples used work perfectly; they gave me a shiver and some goosebumps. Press play and tell us what you think:

You can download your own version from Hulkshare, if you dare, by clicking here. It’s always nice to see, and hear, dope tracks by the gray-beards, the generation I grew up listening to.

EL-P & Killer Mike as Run the Jewels – “Get It”

KillerMikeELP

I like when rappers get together and call themselves something other than just their name with an ampersand. And the name Run the Jewels is evidence that it can sound cool and gully and all that in the process. That’s what happens when El-P and Killer Mike joined forces, and here’s a little something off of their upcoming, and evidently free, album. A little track called “Get It.”

And you can get … it … yourself by hitting that download link from the player. I’ve been on a little Killer Mike kick lately. The dude is hella nice.

PremRock – “Singapore” [VIDEO]

Way back in November PremRock released a Tom Waits tribute album entitled Mark’s Wild Years. Even though it was released so close to the end of the year, I still thought it was easily one of the best releases of 2012. He just dropped a video for “Singapore” which you can check out above. If you’re not familiar with Prem and/or Tom Waits, check out this fresh interview where we break down each track like Bob Costas breaks down gigantic words that his audience has no idea the meaning of.

Mark’s Wild Years is still free and available here. Get with it. Also shouts to the homies on the cameo tip; Corina Corina, Warren Britt and Jesse Abraham.

“Frequent Flyers” – Uncommon Nasa f/ Prince Po

NasaPrincePo

Keeping in tune with being late, the folks over at Uncommon Records released a single from Uncommon Nasa’s forthcoming project, the full length Land of the Way It Is. The track is called “Frequent Flyers” and it features a rap veteran, Prince Po. What’s embarrassing for us at TECB is, while typing P-R-I-N-C-, WordPress’ auto-fill in didn’t automatically populate “Prince Po” for me, meaning we’ve never once tagged him in a post of any kind. I feel sick and if blogging about hip-hop was regulated I’d turn in my resignation. In any event, here’s the track . . .

You can grab the MP3 version along with the instrumental to the Willie Green beat you hear in the background, a Nasa remixed version, that instrumental, and the accapella for the DIY producers out there that want to remix it themselves. Scoop all 5 tracks for the low price of Name Your Price.
