Kendra Morris: “If You Didn’t Go” [The Dita N REMIX]

kendra

Out of everything I’ve posted in the past couple of days, this is far and away my favorite: DJ Mekalek & Jesse Calico’s remix of the fantastic Kendra Morris original, “If You Didn’t Go.”

Banger for sure — especially for all the heartbreak kids out there. And the remix comes with an interesting tale in tow. Essentially, Mek heard the song and related to it, as I’m sure most people could, then reached out to his man Jesse Calico about a remix he had started to conceptualize. Calico wrote a little something to what Mekalek had crafted out of the original, and, without sharing any details, Jesse coincidentally spit a narrative to closely resemble that of Mek’s yet-to-be-told story. (I know this because I’m friends with Mek and traded my sob story for the Dita N tearjerker one night last year.)

Knowing the above enhances the remix with feelings of familiarity and comfort in the otherwise gloomy song, at least in my opinion. Needless to say again, I’m really digging the track. As did Kendra.

Wu-Tang Clan — “Execution in Autumn”

This is probably the best WTC cut I’ve heard in years:

And it’s cheap as dirt. The download is free and there are also limited edition copies on 7″ vinyl available for just fifty-cents plus shipping costs. Get whichever one you prefer while they’re still available via BandCamp.

Prolyphic & Buddy Peace: “Creative Differences” [VIDEO]

This didn’t make the Working Man LP. Still pretty live, though.

You can catch Pro — along with Strange Famous labelmate’s Sage Francis, B.Dolan, and Metermaids – this Saturday at Fete for the Working Man release party. All of the particulars can be seen on our sidebar to the right. If the details are no longer available, congratulations, you and I both missed the show. (My dude Murdoc is getting married that day/evening. Yeeeeet.) Better luck next time.

Ghost & Adrian: “Rise of the Ghostface Killah” [VIDEO]

This is the track Mek did cuts on. (Original posting here.) Expect to hear a little more from Mr. Mekalek this week, including a special guest appearance on Thursday night. Creek that.
