***** ABC’s with TECB ***** 2012 ***** YEAR in MUSIC *****

abc w tecb 2012

2012 was big for music. John Mayer made a comeback. Green Day dropped three albums. El-P put more than his name into every critic’s mouth. Frank Ocean and the rest of OFWGKTA came out of the closet. A band named “fun.” existed. Pussy Riot happened and cries of injustice saturated Facebook statuses until it was time to Instagram lunch. And Barack Obama signed to Roc Nation. Lucky for me, things I care about also happened in the past three-hundred and sixty-five days. This is my 2012 year-end post. An alphabetized breakdown of the year’s highlights in music. I hope you enjoy. Creek my gangnam style:

Apollo Brown & Guilty Simpson — “Parkour”

dice game

Dice Game is one of the better albums of the year. Give a listen to one of the two bonus cuts, right here:

Mello Music recently had some copies of Dice Game printed on ivory-white vinyl. The purchase comes with a bonus 7″ that features “Parkour” and “Duckin’ Strays,” the other non-album track, on the B-side. Cop that package over at the MMG website before they’re all gone. Only one-thousand copies, so act quick.

Apollo Brown & Guilty Simpson – “Truth Be Told”

This track is pretty nice. It’s the debut single from Dice Game, the new album set to drop on November 13 from the Detroit duo.

Apollo will be two-for-two this year if Dice Game comes out even half as fresh as Trophies.

O.C. & Apollo Brown — “Just Walk”

Today, Verbal stated how the sounds of this album made him want to rhyme. But the world needs another college know-it-all hippie vegan yuppie hipster prog rapper much like The Echo Chamber Blog needs a co-owner that perpetually quits then returns only to quit and return yet again on a monthly basis. Needless to say, he’s not rapping…and I’ve made somewhat of a return to this biditch.

Although there’s no possible way you enjoyed what you’ve just read, the song I have streaming above is a damn good silver lining. So if you like that Apollo Brown-flipped Isaac Hayes sample and the always above average rhymes from Omar, hit the Trophies BandCamp page for the free download to “Just Walk” and a few others, including “People’s Champ” for all you roody poo ass clowns. Buy the album, too.

Omar Credle & Apollo Brown – “People’s Champ”

O.C. is a boss on the mic, and, when he’s over some quality production, it’s not even a debate — dude is easily one of the best. He always has been, and his latest project with Detroit beat-maker Apollo Brown proves that nothing is stopping him from continuing to be a dominant figure in hip-hop.

Give a listen to “People’s Champ”:

Dwayne Johnson co-signs the shit out of that track, which is featured on O.C. and Apollo’s recently released Trophies. You can buy it from Fat Beats or UGHH; mp3 geeks have the options of BandCamp or iTunes.
