Black Tokyo Musik – B.L.A.C.K.T.O.K.Y.O. LP

cover

Shouts and congrats to the big homie Black-Tokyo on his full length album, B.L.A.C.K.T.O.K.Y.O. LP. The man churns out more music than your neighbor’s wind chimes during a tropical storm, evident by the fact he just dropped his 30th (30?!) EP on Bandcamp last month. However, B.L.A.C.K.T.O.K.Y.O. LP is a little different from what we’re used to from the beat maker, as it’s not a strict instra-album and it’s not one of his patented EPs. Black got his filthy hands on some emcees to help him out this time around, with tracks from Aeon Grey, Adam Warlock, Adam Selene and more. Also he’s got some cuts on the album courtesy of Tablism.

Each track on the album is named after the letters in the album name. It’s a concept album that Black Tokyo gave free reign to the emcee, but it’s cohesive enough that it doesn’t play like a compilation album. The track “T” featuring Chosen for example, is a song where Chosen kills Black Tokyo 21 times. Proverbially of course. The track “A” featuring Adam Selene, Selene loses his mind. Lyrically. And a musical marriage that will always sound dope on paper and then pass expectations, “B” is the dude Aeon Grey over B.T.’s instrumentals. Take a listen:

Black-Tokyo is TECB brethren, so feel free to support the O.G. Head on over to his Bandcamp and cop this album for just 5 duckets. Small price to pay considering the amount of music the dude puts out for gratis. Hit ‘em up on the Tweets for more deets, @BlackTokyoMusik.

Black-Tokyo Musik – Blastphemers Para-Dice

Call it NOVA, call it DMV, call it the Mid-Atlantic, call it Virginia. You can also call it heavily featured on TECB as Black-Tokyo follows up fellow Virginian Bee-West with his latest creations, Blastphemers Para-Dice EP. Virginia based producer and less-often-but-just-as-dope emcee Black-Tokyo never stops creating and his latest work there’s evidence of some new direction. Peep this track, “Crying Blood,” which has tons of layers and an ill sample throughout:

Head on over to Black-Tokyo’s Bandcamp and pick up this EP for just four-duckets. You can find that in your couch and in your Nissan Stanza’s ash tray. To all artists out there, follow this cat on twitter, @BlackTokyoMusik, and build with him. TECB wants to hear his sound with some raps, too.

Black-Tokyo Musik x He Dreamt Mars = Tokyo On Mars

Black-Tokyo has been busy; steadying flipping, chopping, and sampling in his Virginia based lab. Recently we featured his collaboration with us, The Echo Chamber Ep, which is still available for free download, and not soon after he finished that project, he wrapped up another collaboration with a good friend of ours, DJ Jazz Pants. You can grab that at Jazz’s site here.

He wasn’t done with his new-found fondness of teaming up with other creatives (yeah I just said bloggers were creatives: somewhere a real writer just fell out of his chair laughing — well fuck him, and you…kidding) as he enlisted the help of artist, He Dreamt Mars, an artist and graphic designer hailing from my people’s homeland, England. He and Black-Tokyo got together on this collaboration and added a different twist. For each track Black-Tokyo crafted, HDM designed a correlating design. Pretty dope concept if you ask me. Check out my personal favorite track on this EP, “Monochrome.”

Kind of has some old Disney-movie-montage-of-characters-cleaning feel to it, but with the chops and loops we’re expected to hear from Black-Tokyo. Show some support for two artists by naming your price for this 9-track EP. Grab it up here and don’t forget to check out the accompanying track-artwork at He Dreamt Mars’ website.  Let us know what you think and as always shoot some love in the comments section.

A TECB Exclusive: Black-Tokyo x TECB Presents – “The Echo Chamber EP”

We’ve been steady bloggin’ for a few years now. We’ve trimmed the fat, updated the site here and there, but overall Chris and I are pretty happy with the what TECB has become. It’s humbling to see people visit our site everyday and read our daily diatribes on Twitter and Facebook.  People even stopped by on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. That’s hip-hop for you, there are no holidays. Enough waxing poetic, one of my prouder moments as a pretend blogger was when Virginia-based beat maker, Black-Tokyo, dropped me a line and said he wanted to create an EP inspired by, and exclusively for, TECB. After a few frantic “I-told-you-so” themed calls to old college professors, high school teachers, ex-girlfriends, and people who blocked me on Facebook, I of course obliged. So as a thank you to our reader base, the artists we’ve worked with, friends, family, and fellow bloggers (yes, even the shitty ones, I’m looking at you HipHopDx) we’re proud to release The Echo Chamber EP for free download.

Take the time to download and listen. We really appreciate everyone who stops by to read or comment or troll, truly. And with the amount of work we put in, it’s nice to have our name on some music. Please download, share, re-post, re-tweet, re-listen and then listen again. And of course, a special shout out and thank you to Black-Tokyo. Peep his past work on TECB here, and his whole catalog on his Bandcamp page, here. It’s quite extensive.
