Black Tokyo Musik – B.L.A.C.K.T.O.K.Y.O. LP

cover

Shouts and congrats to the big homie Black-Tokyo on his full length album, B.L.A.C.K.T.O.K.Y.O. LP. The man churns out more music than your neighbor’s wind chimes during a tropical storm, evident by the fact he just dropped his 30th (30?!) EP on Bandcamp last month. However, B.L.A.C.K.T.O.K.Y.O. LP is a little different from what we’re used to from the beat maker, as it’s not a strict instra-album and it’s not one of his patented EPs. Black got his filthy hands on some emcees to help him out this time around, with tracks from Aeon Grey, Adam Warlock, Adam Selene and more. Also he’s got some cuts on the album courtesy of Tablism.

Each track on the album is named after the letters in the album name. It’s a concept album that Black Tokyo gave free reign to the emcee, but it’s cohesive enough that it doesn’t play like a compilation album. The track “T” featuring Chosen for example, is a song where Chosen kills Black Tokyo 21 times. Proverbially of course. The track “A” featuring Adam Selene, Selene loses his mind. Lyrically. And a musical marriage that will always sound dope on paper and then pass expectations, “B” is the dude Aeon Grey over B.T.’s instrumentals. Take a listen:

Black-Tokyo is TECB brethren, so feel free to support the O.G. Head on over to his Bandcamp and cop this album for just 5 duckets. Small price to pay considering the amount of music the dude puts out for gratis. Hit ‘em up on the Tweets for more deets, @BlackTokyoMusik.

Atari Blitzkrieg – Christ versus Satan

I was never a fan of horror flicks back in the day. I say back in the day, but I still don’t like those shit-shows. I would use excuses like they weren’t realistic and they were too predictable to be enjoyable. In actuality, I was, and still am, a giant pussy fart. This trip into Verbal’s past is brought to you by this creepy, yet awesome, art work for Satan in the Mirror, Atari’s first release with Uncommon Records.

Blitzkrieg brought out the demons for this album, as well as Satan’s choice of instrument, the guitar. Atari is known for rapping circles around your favorite rapper, but he shreds some chords on this track, “Hallelujah.”

Most of Satan in the Mirror has a much darker sound and feel than we’re used to from Atari. He’s ever evolving his sound all the while keeping his patented uber-fast lyric delivery. No two Atari albums have the same feel, and SITM keeps that streak alive. There’s even a bonus cut where he harnesses his inner metal and thrash roots and screams like he’s trying-out for Black Flag. I’m a huge fan of artists that push the envelope of “their” genre and who aren’t afraid to try out-of-the-box things. “GAWS” for example is a satirical ride into the world of “swag.” Definitely worth your listen.

Production on the album was done by Atari himself as well as a track a piece by Krohme, Nasa and Black-Tokyo. This 6 (7 counting the bonus cut)-track album is available for just $4.99 at Uncommon Records’ Bandcamp. Keep a look out for Technicolor Crime Scenes, which will be Atari’s full length on the Staten Isle based label.

Wait there’s more? The Blitz produces more music than most. About 40 days or so after the release of Satan in the Mirror, the mid-Atlantic based emcee dropped Air Christ. This is a 5-cut jammy that is in complete polar opposites of the aforementioned Satan in the Mirror. Just like SITM is a precursor to a full length, Air Christ is setting the tone for Deer God, due out sooner than when you’ll admit to clearing your browser history when you’re at your mom’s.

Atari produced every track himself except for “New Morning” which was done by the big homie IV the Polymath. Air Christ starts off with a track dedicated to the Hawaiian lifestyle. A cool, calming tribute with a soulful hook courtesy of Mio Soul. Guitars are prevalent on this EP, too, but not the Devil-worshiping thrashing we heard on SITM. Peep the soothing, easy-going backdrop on “New Morning,” also featuring Mio Soul:

Air Christ can be yours for just $1. Or more if you’re feeling generous. Head on over to Atari Blitzkrieg’s Bandcamp and click the “Buy Now”  button.

Two EPs than can be yours for a combined $5.99. You’re welcome, world.

Black-Tokyo Musik – Blastphemers Para-Dice

Call it NOVA, call it DMV, call it the Mid-Atlantic, call it Virginia. You can also call it heavily featured on TECB as Black-Tokyo follows up fellow Virginian Bee-West with his latest creations, Blastphemers Para-Dice EP. Virginia based producer and less-often-but-just-as-dope emcee Black-Tokyo never stops creating and his latest work there’s evidence of some new direction. Peep this track, “Crying Blood,” which has tons of layers and an ill sample throughout:

Head on over to Black-Tokyo’s Bandcamp and pick up this EP for just four-duckets. You can find that in your couch and in your Nissan Stanza’s ash tray. To all artists out there, follow this cat on twitter, @BlackTokyoMusik, and build with him. TECB wants to hear his sound with some raps, too.

ghostrobots f/ Black-Tokyo – “Still the Same”

We’ve featured Black-Tokyo on TECB numerous times, but always from behind the glass and on the boards or the computer. He dusts off his mic on this collab with ghostrobots called, “Still The Same.” Production on this gem is done by Heez Magnif (Dripping In Gold) and the MC who starts off is Mr. Outside as Black-Tokyo wraps things up. Take a listen:

Heez Magnif makes an ill sound as a backdrop for Mr. Outiside and Black-Tokyo to wax poetic over. Grab your own MP3 of this song over at Dripping In Gold’s Bandcamp, here. It’s name your price so show the ghostrobots some love. Stay tuned for more work from ghostrobots, which is a 3-emcee and a producer collective that are working on an 11-track album for everyone to hear.

Duke01 – “Separated by an Abyss”

I came across this track back in January and somehow or another I put it on the back burner to post it and it wound up with all my missing socks in my lint trap. Duke01 is a United Kingdom based emcee and the cover art you see here is done by He Dreamt Mars, which you’ll remember from his work with Black-Tokyo. This track, “Separated by an Abyss,” was produced by Montreal based beat maker (and occasional rapper) Waatu.

Feel free to grab this track and a remixed version, by Duke01 and Pete Wilson, at Duke01′s Bandcamp page. I love the high energy in this track and I’m huge fan of the cuts too, those courtesy of Johnny Crump. Duke01 just had the opportunity to open for The GZA/Genius across the pond where he performed “Separated by an Abyss.” TECB is worldwide, yo.
