***** ABC’s with TECB ***** 2012 ***** YEAR in MUSIC *****

abc w tecb 2012

2012 was big for music. John Mayer made a comeback. Green Day dropped three albums. El-P put more than his name into every critic’s mouth. Frank Ocean and the rest of OFWGKTA came out of the closet. A band named “fun.” existed. Pussy Riot happened and cries of injustice saturated Facebook statuses until it was time to Instagram lunch. And Barack Obama signed to Roc Nation. Lucky for me, things I care about also happened in the past three-hundred and sixty-five days. This is my 2012 year-end post. An alphabetized breakdown of the year’s highlights in music. I hope you enjoy. Creek my gangnam style:

Milez Grimez – “401 (Island of Rhodes)” [VIDEO]

Milez Grimez, Rhode Island’s grimiest emcee, is back with a new song and video to hype up his home state. The musical backdrop is provided by fellow Rhode Islander, and appropriately named, FourOhOne. The cuts you hear are also brought to you by the Ocean State’s DJ Mekalek.

As Mek severs up the wax over FourOhOne’s keys, Grimez and company bring “401 (Island of Rhodes)” back to the years of anthems. Something about this joint makes me think of Onyx; probably the group effort yelling “Four! Oh! One!” during the hook. Plenty of cameos in this joint too: Dirty Durdie, Meta P, Swann Notty, 8th and others.

Always stay tuned to TECB for the latest in Rhode Island, and all points surrounding it, rappity rap music. Hit us up in the comment section with your thoughts!

Troop Raw x FourOhOne – “Emperaw Strikes Back”

“You want to hear the new track I did with Troop Raw?”

“Are those Umbro’s, bro?”

That’s how the conversation went last time I visited FourOhOne’s crib. I left without listening to anything but J-Zone tracks, which is, regrettably, the reason why I’m a little late on posting this track to TECB. But here it is. A new track from Troop — and a dick-tease for the new season of Dexter, starting this Sunday, September 30th.

FourOhOne x Mike Newhouse — “Let’s Dance”

This beat is funky fresh!

Move those feet, you monkey motherfuckers!

Sense One — The Past, Present, and Future

We’ve plugged a couple of singles off of this album already — once with the Emilio Lopez collaboration “Lost Souls” and twice with the Chrispy-produced “Elevator Music” — but now Sense One is here to deliver The Past, Present, and Future in its entirety.  The album features a great amount of talent, with Entity, Kid Carnage, and FourOhOne to credit for their production efforts, as well as local lyricists Dirty Hank, KEVdiggs, and Prolyphic sharing microphone detail.

Tomorrow night, January 17, we’ll be celebrating the release of Sense’s sophomore project at The Bridge, the weekly hip-hop showcase that hits PVD Social Club on Tuesday nights. Joining the party for some stage time are album guests KEVdiggs, Emilio Lopez, and Prolyphic, making for a line-up that should result in an excellent evening of live hip-hip. Here’s a sample of what you’ll be hearing…

It’s “Pick Ya Poison,” the third single featuring Prolyphic of Strange Famous Records over a perfectly fitting FourOhOne soundscape. Now that you guppies are hooked with the sound, head on over to Sense Uno’s BandCamp page and download the complete album to prepare for the show that awaits you.

Be sure to let us know what you think of the album, either in the comment section or by bundling-up and making it out to Richmond Street in Downtown Providence tomorrow night (details on the right sidebar).
