Reef the Lost Cauze – “FUCK RAPPERS” [VIDEO]

A phrase we’ve said many times here at TECB, Reef the Lost Cauze, of Army of the Pharaohs and Jedi Mind fame, uses “Fuck Rappers” as a the basis and title of this song/video. This track comes from Snowgoons and Reef’s album, Your Favorite MC. Snowgoons are hit or miss with me, usually sounding too epic for my liking. But the epic-ness fits perfectly with this comic book themed track.

It’s unfortunate that there isn’t a Super-MC that could come and dispose of many a-wack MC. The only thing I would have added to this video was a part where Super Reef would demolish a best-MC-contest. The cornerstone to every wack rapper’s breakfast.

M.O.P. x Snowgoons – “Get Yours”

Here’s the first listen of what’s in store from Sparta, the highly anticipated album from M.O.P. and the German based production team, Snowgoons. The Snowgoons actually have a release tomorrow, Your Favorite M.C., with Philly’s Reef the Lost Cauze. Sparta will be out 11.22.2011 on Babygrande Records and if this single is any indication, the album should be throwback M.O.P.

Drop us a line and tell us what you think. Snowgoons don’t usually do it for me and I’m pretty sure Chris once wrote about their album Black Snow and called it “Yellow Snow.” Regardless, this track is raw. Download your damn-self from the player.

Al-J x Falside x Keith Murray x Reef The Lost Cauze

Think Falside settled down with the music making after his release of Beats For Spring?  Doubt it. The Rhode Island native is still hard at work, and this time he’s managed to slide his fine instrumentals under the likes of Al-J, Lost Cauze, and the hot mustard dipper (Keith Murray, bitch).

Believe it:

The song is called “Cold Blooded” and you can cop the download right here by right-clicking and saving as.  Yes, it’s that easy to obtain good music these days.

Look out for Blak Carrington, Al-J’s solo venture, available for free download in the near future.

TECB’s Year in Hip-Hop: The best, worst, overrated, underappreciated, surprises, and disappointments of 2008

dusty 45's

The Best of 2008:

1.) j.DePina – Dusty 45′s: I listened to this joint over and over again just to see if I would ever get sick of it, and it hasn’t happened yet. Honestly, I don’t think it will ever happen. This may be my favorite instrumental album…ever—but that’s coming from someone who thinks Donuts is one of the more overrated albums of all time. Regardless, this album knocks from beginning to end, and I truly believe this year hasn’t seen a better release from any (yes, any) other artist. It’s the 401, gettin’ it done.  If you missed this, download it here.
2.) Look Daggers – Suffer in Style: Everything I look for in an album is delivered here by 2Mex (of Visionaries) and Ikey Owens (of The Mars Volta) on this LP: originality and genre-bending creativity, blended with cohesiveness and consistency. Over the past couple years, 2Mex has slowly become one of my favorite emcees. Check for more about him in our “If you don’t know, now you know” section in the near future.
3.) Qwel & Kip Killagain – The New Wine: Qwel is pretty much my favorite emcee. Aside from the fact that he has the most ridiculous and mind-scrambling rhyme patterns, the best thing about Qwel is that he chooses to make his albums while working with only one producer. I can’t stress enough how much record’s benefit from this, and why more artists don’t do this is beyond me. So, needless to say, The New Wine is nice. Not Qwel’s best, but still very nice.
4.) Elzhi – Euro Pass: For me, there’s no question that Euro Pass, Elzhi’s mixtape from early 2008, is better than his studio LP, The Preface, that came later in the year. The clever narratives and intricate rhyme reciting heard from Elzhi on Euro Pass matches up perfectly with the production from Black Milk (probably his best to date), T3, and DJ Dez among others. There isn’t a single cold spot to be found on this entire CD.
5.) Invincible – Shapeshifters: Ever since I heard this girl kick rhymes on Eddie Ill & DL, I’ve been a huge fan. I’m really in awe as to how Invincible put together such an incredible debut LP: her rhymes are always on point, and her production selection couldn’t have been much better. I’m anticipating a strong sophomore LP within the next couple years.

Bad Biology

This flick should be amazing.  Yes, I mean that.  It’s directed by Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case trilogy, Brain Damage, Frankenhooker) who also co-wrote the script alongside the dirtiest, crustiest hip-hop artist to ever pick up a microphone, R.A. the Rugged Man.  There is no set release date for Bad Biology in the US, but the film has been hitting its fair share of festivals in 2008.  The next stop for the film is Switzerland from October 15-19 at the Lausanne Underground Film Festival, followed by a trip to Spain for the San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Festival that kicks off on Halloween night and ends November 8.

Between the twisted minds of R.A. and Henenlotter, an original score courtesy of Prince Paul, and a cameo from J-Zone, this film is guaranteed to have some of the craziest sights and sounds horror fans have seen in a while.

Also.  The lineup for the OST looks incredible.  Smoothe the Hustler and Kool G Rap are set to be on a track together, as well as Killah Priest, Reef the Lost Cauze, and 60 Sec Assassin teaming up for another.  Other notable contributors to the soundtrack are Ras Kass, Havoc of Mobb Deep, Atmosphere, T.H.U.G. Angelz, and, of course, the Rugged Man.
